Fall in car production `smallest this year`
22 June 2009
The latest vehicle production figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have shown a 43% fall in car production over the year to May.
However, it was the smallest fall in car production of the year so far, suggesting that the Government`s scrappage scheme is having an impact on demand for new cars.
Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive, said: "The scrappage schemes in place across Europe are now beginning to have a positive impact, although the full benefits will take a little longer to flow down to companies at all levels in the supply chain."
A spokesperson for Think Cars said: "The car scrappage scheme has made buying a brand-new car a more attractive option for some people.
"For people buying a car on finance, finding the best car loan can make a big difference to the overall cost. A professional car loans adviser can make it a lot easier to find that deal."
