Government extends car scrappage scheme by one month

4 February 2010

The Government has decided to extend its car scrappage scheme until the end of March, giving motorists one more month to trade in their old vehicles for a discount on a new car.

The scheme, in which car buyers are given a £2,000 discount on new cars when they trade in a car more than ten years old, has successfully boosted car sales in recent months.

A car finance expert for Think Money commented: "There had been some speculation as to whether low car finance levels have been due to a lack of demand or a lack of availability, but the increase seen during the car scrappage scheme suggests that when people want to buy a new car, the car finance is, in many cases, available.

"Anyone concerned about where to find car finance should discuss their needs with an expert car finance adviser, who can help them find a good deal."
