Many pensioners `may not have enough income`
29 April 2009
A think tank has warned that many pensioners may not have enough income to fully meet their needs as they get older, according to The Telegraph.
The Pensions Policy Institute said that pensioners may not have enough resources to cover the costs of things like disability, long-term care or being widowed.
The company`s research found that people`s expectations of their retirement income often changed in the years after they had retired.
A debt expert for Think Money said: "This research reinforces the importance of adequate saving for retirement. Nobody can accurately predict what might happen in retirement, and so it`s important that anyone approaching retirement has as much put away as possible.
"Without sufficient savings, many people could find themselves getting into debt in retirement if any unexpected costs arise."
