ABI launches `Good Practice Guide` for insurance providers
12 January 2010
The ABI (Association of British Insurers) has published a `Good Practice Guide` to help encourage `greater transparency` for insurance customers.
The guidance sets standards in seven areas to ensure consumers have `positive experiences` when purchasing insurance products online, according to The Financial Times.
The ABI aims to address several key areas of poor practice identified by insurance industry regulators - such as prioritising speed of quotes ahead of accuracy.
An insurance expert at Think Money said: "The ABI`s guidelines should help to ensure that insurance customers are getting clear advice from insurance providers and comparison websites.
"However, this does highlight the fact that insurance advice doesn`t end with price comparison sites. Many people may find it useful to speak directly with an expert insurance adviser, who can search for the best insurance deal on the customer`s behalf."
