Home insurance important this Christmas

10 December 2009

Home insurance provider M&S Money has advised people to make security a priority this Christmas.

Crime statistics show that domestic burglaries increase in November, December and January, according to the company, when the nights draw in early.

M&S added that 39% of households leave gifts under the tree before Christmas Day - something which burglars could take advantage of.

An insurance expert at Think Money commented: "At a time of years when families are traditionally buying a lot of expensive goods, it makes sense to protect against the possibility of break-ins, and indeed accidents around the home.

"Home insurance may not be a legal requirement like car insurance, but that doesn`t mean people should avoid it. Expensive goods like TVs and MP3 players could be difficult to replace outright, but insurance can ensure households are covered."
