Increased flooding risk highlights importance of insurance

AA Insurance has emphasised the importance of insurance after it was found that over one in five homeowners had cancelled or not renewed their home insurance during the recession.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said: "We are getting home insurance claims from places where there is no previous history of flooding. Drainage systems are often unable to cope with some of the sudden and extreme downpours we have been experiencing. As a result, homes are being flooded in unexpected places.
"Home Insurance and car insurance claims are a natural consequence of severe weather. Yet many people are cutting back on insurance, which can be a big mistake."
An insurance expert for Think Money said: "Many people who cancel their home insurance for affordability reasons may not realise that they may be able to save a lot of money by switching their provider.
"There tends to be a big difference between the cheapest insurance deals and the most expensive ones. An expert insurance adviser can make finding the best deal a lot easier."
