Most travel insurance policies `don`t cover airline failure`
29 June 2010
Over three quarters of travel insurance policies don`t cover scheduled airline failure, according to a report from financial research company Defaqto.
As headlinemoney.co.uk reports, the research indicates that independent holidaymakers need to take a good look at their insurance policies and see if they`d be covered if the airline failed.
Brian Brown, who is Head of Research at Defaqto and authored the report, said, "Not everyone has the same needs for their travel insurance arrangements so it is important to take some time to review features carefully. We reviewed 885 products for our travel insurance Star Ratings across single trip, multi trip and gap year travel so there is a lot of choice available."
Defaqto found that 21% of single trip insurance policies provided cover for scheduled airline failure as standard, while 2% had optional cover available.
For annual travel insurance policies, the figures were 20% (cover provided as standard) and 2% (optional) - and for extended trip travel insurance, 14% (standard) and 1% (optional).
