Older female drivers `paying more for insurance`
19 January 2010
Women aged over 60 make more insurance claims and therefore pay more than their male counterparts, according to research from Guardian Money.
Some insurance companies charge as much as 50% more for women in this age group than for men of the same age.
The findings are in contrast to those related to the under-60 age group, in which men are more likely to make insurance claims.
An insurance expert at Think Money commented: "How much motorists pay for their car insurance can vary with a number of `risk` factors. Building up a good history can help with this, but it still stands that people from certain demographics are likely to pay more than others.
"With that in mind, it`s important that motorists take the time to search for the best insurance deal. There`s often a huge difference between the cheapest and most expensive car insurance deals - although people should also be careful to ensure that their policy meets all their needs."
